Barack H. Obama - The 44th President of the United States

Grabe, I stayed up really late talaga kaninang madaling araw just to be able to watch the swearing-in of President Barack Obama.

One reason why I wanted to wach the Inauguration was to be able to hear his speech, and the second was to be able to see Mrs. Obama's fashion statement for the occasion. In truth, it is one of the highlights of the swearing-in: Michelle Obama's dress.

It took really long, but I really appreciate how the Americans abide to the time. Unlike Filipinos when we were always an hour late of the scheduled time.

It was a really different feeling, seeing an African American being sworn-in as the President of the United States. And he was still very young.

It was really a great achievement for the minority, especially to the immigrants of the United States whose rights weren't much attended by the previous Presidents. In Obama's reign, there was a greater hope for their needs to be acknowledged because we all know that Barack Obama represents the minority of America.

When the first-family went out into the open, everyone was stunned by what Michelle, Malia and Sasha wore for that occasion. Positive feedbacks about their fashion get-up flooded the internet and my favorite comment was, "Michelle Obama is showing promise for a brighter and more fashionable White House." (Sydney Wasserman, fashion editor, Interview magazine) Indeed, she is, and so as her daughters.

So it was already time for the oath-taking. Chief Justice Jonh Roberts was the one who had sworn Obama in the Presidency. But then, there was a little flaw during the oath-taking, because of course, both Chief Justice Roberts and President Obama were first-timers.

No one could actually blame them for being nervous during the oath-taking.

First, Obama jumped in before the "do solemnly swear". I even commented that he was probably too excited. And then on the second line, probably Roberts got a little off course after Obama's jumping in, that he said the second line straight, "that I will execute the office of President to the United States faithfully."

And Obama, after saying, "that I will execute..." he paused, looking intently at Roberts, as if prompting him to repeat the next line. And Roberts was like, "The off ... faithfully the pres ... the office of President of the United States."

Talk about stutters. I was sure a lot have noticed that flaw, but no one commented badly on it, understanding that it was Chief Justice Robert's first time to swear someone in the office. He, being the youngest Chief Justice of the High Court still had a lot to learn in the next 25 years of his office.

There were a lot of people during the inauguration. It actually beat Lyndon B. Johnson's record during his inauguration in 1963. Clearly, it stated that Barack Obama's presidency had been agreed by more than half the population of the United States.

His speech was very short yet very precise. Although he didn't include direct actions to the crisis in his speech, he encouraged the Americans to finally stand up and work together in remaking America, in putting the country back in the line of the most powerful and at the same time, to work together with the monority.

Outgoing President George W. Bush left a lot of problems for Obama to work with. Let this be his challenge to prove that the people of the United States didn't make a mistake in choosing the first African-American to lead their country.
