SYNOPSIS:
Liv and Emma are best friends who since childhood have planned every detail of their respective weddings. At the top of their bridal "must have" list: a ceremony at New York's ultimate bridal destination, the Plaza Hotel. Now, at age 26, they're both about to get married; they're about to realize their dreams; and they're about to live happily ever after. Or maybe not. When a clerical error causes a clash in wedding dates--they're now to be married on the same date!--Liv, Emma and their lifelong friendship are put to the ultimate test. Liv, a successful lawyer who is used to getting what she wants, including the perfect job and the perfect man, won't settle for anything less than the perfect wedding she has dreamed of for years. Emma, a schoolteacher who has always been good at taking care of others, but not so much in looking after herself, discovers her inner Bridezilla and comes out swinging when her own dream wedding is imperiled. Now, the two best friends who'd do anything for each other find themselves in a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners struggle that threatens to erupt into all-out war.
REVIEW:
Alright, it's a good movie, but it's so typical. I mean not the plot, but the story. It's some sort of a story that I can see in most romantic-comedy movies. Emma's ending was just a little unexpected.
The movie contains all the parts of a story. haha! I think the funniest was the conflict part, where Emma and Liv would attempt to destroy each other's coming wedding ceremony. However, the stream of the story during the conflict part was usually seen in other movies. It doesn't have any unique touch in it.
However, the movie is good, I cried in the resolution part. And as I've said, I didn't expect it would end that way with Emma. lol! =]

SYNOPSIS:
The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Intrigued by Jamal's story, the jaded Police Inspector begins to wonder what a young man with no apparent desire for riches is really doing on this game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out...
REVIEW:
So actually, I really didn't know anything about this movie. I've only heard about it in the Critic's Choice Awards and Golden Globe awards. This low-budgeted almost Indie film became a blockbuster movie after receiving a lot of nominations from the said Awards.
So I got curious and watched the movie. I haven't read the synopsis or anything about it, I just trusted the reviews I've been hearing on TV and reading on the net.
And they were right. Slumdog Millionaire is one movie that really deserved to be acclaimed in the international film industry. It is simply made yet you can see the intelligence hidden behind the ordinary twist of the movie.
It showed the life of the poor people in India which I can greatly compare to the Philippine poverty. While the scenes showed the slums of Mumbai, I could imagine the squatters area in Manila. There really was no difference, except maybe for the fact that the movie shows India.
The great coincidence of the questions in the game show and Jamal's life was also very intelligently made. They had to think of questions worthy of the prize money, but of which Jamal was supposed to have answered because he encountered it as a child.
It is a story of love and survival. How hard someone would work for the love of his family, friends and a special someone.
I highly recommend you to watch this movie, you won't regret it.

SYNOPSIS:
"I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be.
REVIEW
So I watched this movie yesterday and they were right, this movie is awesome! It tells an extraordinary story about a not so ordinary man who was born old and aged backwards.
I also loved the way the story went, leaving prints of history in a very normal way. Even though Benjamin was unusual when he was born, he grew up, experiencing the normal life. There were no extraordinary events in his life, it's just like watching someone's life story with a different twist.
Unbelievable as Benjamin's case may be, the way he handled life despite his difference was very inspiring. He grew up like any normal person would. He played with toys when he was a kid, fell in love when he got older, went on his way and became independent and started building his own family.
However, the catch was as he grew old, his features become younger until he became a little kid who wasn't able to remember anything from his past anymore.
I love the slogan that I usually see in the poster:
"We're meeting in the middle...we finally caught up with each other"
Even though Benjamin grew up unusually, there came a time when his looks matched the age of the girl he loved since he was a child. It was supposed to be a very happy decade for Benjamin but then, he knew that he couldn't stop the time and the unavoidable will occur. Another decade, and he would be as good as his daughter's playmate.
I cried so hard in the end of the movie. It was just so sad, having to know that the one you love had to leave you because it was necessary. And seeing the one you love die in your arms is just the most painful feeling that you'll ever have.
Benjamin Button inspired us to live our lives fully, because there is only going to be one lifetime for each of us, and there would always be no room for regrets.

January 26th, 2009 @ approximately 4pm. I'm not sure if it'll hit the northern part of the Philippines. From what I've read, it could hit Mindanao though. I hope so. And I also hope it won't rain or there won't be any overcast thing. haha! =p
I just learned about this a moment ago when my sister told me. And I was like, "Jeez, you know what, I dreamed of an eclipse last night!"
But it was a very, very weird lunar eclipse. haha! You see. The sun covered up the moon and turned night into day. See how weird it was?
Isn't it weird? My dream went like this. I was from a Chinese New Year celebration. I watched the fireworks, but it rained. And then, the rain turned into salt that looked like snow on the ground.
Then afterward, I decided to go home, because my best friend was waiting. I took a bus and met a guy while on the way. It was close to midnight and I fell asleep. When I woke up, I saw a little light from the sky. I looked at my watch and it read 2:05 am. Then confused, I checked into my cellphone and it read the same time. Then, I asked the guy beside me and he said it was past 2 in the morning.
I looked at the sky again then muttered, "Lunar eclipse" haha! How can a lunar eclipse become like that? How weird.
Then I asked the driver to stop. I went out of the bus and people were also peering out from windows, looking at the sun. Yes, at 2 in the morning, it looked like the sun was already about to rise.
Then I realized I had to go home because my best friend would act very weird when there's a lunar eclipse. I took a cab and the guy I met went with me. My best friend was already freaking out and I had to strap her onto a chair to prevent her from hurting herself and hurting us.
Well, my dream ended there and I woke up. Hours after dreaming it, my sister told me about the eclipse. Was it just a coincidence or did it mean something? I'm not sure. I'm not a dream interpreter. hehe...
But nonetheless, I'm excited to see it tomorrow. I just wish, wish, wish, fucking wish that it won't rain tomorrow, and that the sky would be crystal clear! =]
Oh, another thing. It will be an Annular Eclipse...another coincidence? I'm getting very addicted to the Heroes series which has an Annular eclipse in their logo. =p

Grabe, I stayed up really late talaga kaninang madaling araw just to be able to watch the swearing-in of President Barack Obama.
One reason why I wanted to wach the Inauguration was to be able to hear his speech, and the second was to be able to see Mrs. Obama's fashion statement for the occasion. In truth, it is one of the highlights of the swearing-in: Michelle Obama's dress.
It took really long, but I really appreciate how the Americans abide to the time. Unlike Filipinos when we were always an hour late of the scheduled time.
It was a really different feeling, seeing an African American being sworn-in as the President of the United States. And he was still very young.
It was really a great achievement for the minority, especially to the immigrants of the United States whose rights weren't much attended by the previous Presidents. In Obama's reign, there was a greater hope for their needs to be acknowledged because we all know that Barack Obama represents the minority of America.
When the first-family went out into the open, everyone was stunned by what Michelle, Malia and Sasha wore for that occasion. Positive feedbacks about their fashion get-up flooded the internet and my favorite comment was, "Michelle Obama is showing promise for a brighter and more fashionable White House." (Sydney Wasserman, fashion editor, Interview magazine) Indeed, she is, and so as her daughters.
So it was already time for the oath-taking. Chief Justice Jonh Roberts was the one who had sworn Obama in the Presidency. But then, there was a little flaw during the oath-taking, because of course, both Chief Justice Roberts and President Obama were first-timers.
No one could actually blame them for being nervous during the oath-taking.
First, Obama jumped in before the "do solemnly swear". I even commented that he was probably too excited. And then on the second line, probably Roberts got a little off course after Obama's jumping in, that he said the second line straight, "that I will execute the office of President to the United States faithfully."
And Obama, after saying, "that I will execute..." he paused, looking intently at Roberts, as if prompting him to repeat the next line. And Roberts was like, "The off ... faithfully the pres ... the office of President of the United States."
Talk about stutters. I was sure a lot have noticed that flaw, but no one commented badly on it, understanding that it was Chief Justice Robert's first time to swear someone in the office. He, being the youngest Chief Justice of the High Court still had a lot to learn in the next 25 years of his office.
There were a lot of people during the inauguration. It actually beat Lyndon B. Johnson's record during his inauguration in 1963. Clearly, it stated that Barack Obama's presidency had been agreed by more than half the population of the United States.
His speech was very short yet very precise. Although he didn't include direct actions to the crisis in his speech, he encouraged the Americans to finally stand up and work together in remaking America, in putting the country back in the line of the most powerful and at the same time, to work together with the monority.
Outgoing President George W. Bush left a lot of problems for Obama to work with. Let this be his challenge to prove that the people of the United States didn't make a mistake in choosing the first African-American to lead their country.

I didn't know her.
I don't know her.
And I don't intend to know her.
Wait, I think I know her...Oh, yeah, she's the little girl with the big voice who was discovered in Youtube. She's guested on Oprah's show, Ellen Degeneres' show and even that English show with the guy I forgot.
Aside from that, I don't know anything about Charice anymore.
She took a step to fame, but I still didn't intend to know her. Why?
Because I'm not among those who took her fame to an advantage. What, becoming an instant fan just because she sailed across the globe and was seen with famous international stars? Oh please! And where were you before she was even known? I bet you don't even know some Charice Pempenco existed.
I really wonder why some people have this "balimbing" manner. The sort of behavior wherein you stick for a particular thing just because it's in the limelight. Don't you think it's one way of showing you're not being true to yourself?
I make my mom as an example. She didn't know who Charice was, until my sister showed a video of her on Youtube, and Ellen Degeneres asking her to come visit her in her show. And my mom, in that instant was like, "Wow! She's really great! Oh look at her! She's so awesome!"
And after the Ellen show was aired, mom became an instant Charice fan. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. What's with this instant fandom thing? Just because she's become popular? Jeez, wake up! Do you even know anything about her aside from her name?
And them mom would start looking for Charice anywhere on TV. Indeed, starting her rise to fame, she had been guesting in a lot of TV shows already. But that didn't move me.
Sure, I admit, she's had a really great voice, but other than that, I don't find anything special about Charice.
My friend Dhawell even asked me this question before: "Do you like Sarah?" and I was like, "I looove Sarah." Then he asked again, "How about Charice" I looked at him, shook my head and said, "No."
Then he raised his eyebrows. "Why? She's becoming famous." And I answered. "So? That doesn't mean I'll be an instant fan, or whatever. I wasn't a fan of Charice, and no matter what she achieves, I'll never become her fan."
It's really not that I didn't like her. But I also can't find reasons to like her either. You got me? Charice is great, but that doesn't mean she was able to convince everyone to become her fan.
I still look up Sarah Geronimo, and no matter where Charice's fame may bring her, I'd never falter. Because why would I settle for someone whose name I only knew after she had been well-known?
And another thing. I think this whole Charice Pempengco being an international star thing would make her head grow bigger in the future. I don't need a fortune-teller saying that to believe it would happen. The huge international industry is just too much for her young age to handle.
It's really not an execution of crab mentality or something. In fact, I'm quite proud that another Filipino has imprinted a name over Hollywood. But then, I don't think Charice would be able to keep her feet on the ground with all this stardom happening to her.
I just hope it won't be a reason for her downfall in the future.
UPDATE: JANUARY 19
I saw in Ang Pinaka yesterday that Charice is Number 7 in the Most Searched Local Celebreties on the Internet.
Hmmmm...I don't actually count myself as one of those who searched for her in the internet. I think the only time I searched for Charice Pempengco on the net was when I looked for a picture to post in this blog. haha! =p

I think the only time I searched for Charice Pempengco on the net was when I looked for a picture to post in this blog. haha! =p

A cheerleader who's indestructible; a nurse who can absorb any abilities near him; a politician who can fly; a cop who can hear thoughts; an office worker who can bend space and time; a mother who has an alter-ego; and a junkie who can paint the future.
All of them were in danger from a man named Sylar who kills people with abilities and steals their power. All of them must work together to save the world and defeat the villain.
I think Heroes was aired in 2006 or 2007, I'm not really sure. I've actually only seen some parts of the series on Studio 23 before but I wasn't able to watch all the chapters in season one.
This is the only time that i was able to watch all 23 chapters.
I say these people who have extraordinary abilities all have their own destiny in saving the world, and saving others like them from Sylar.
I was amazed that in all 23 chapters, there was no boring episode ever. Each chapter was exciting and would really make you anticipate for the ending.
But I was sort of disappointed by the ending. I know in Season 2, Sylar was still alive, but how could they actually believe that Hiro was able to kill Sylar just by stabbing him with Takezo Kensei's sword? They should have at least ripped his head open, too and removed his brain. haha! =p
Anyways, the ending was good, but I just didn't like how they ended it for Sylar. It was a very stupid act to stab someone who's got more than what their abilities had. It was out of the question. They'd risked their lives and other special people's lives to stop Sylar and they were satisfied just after he was stabbed.
Wow! No wonder Sylar lived. Because he was waaayy smarter than any of them.

As far as my dementia could take me, I will try my best to remember every significant happening in my 2008.
JANUARY:
I had my first Korean tutorial job. Jeon Yong Wook. A nine-year old Korean kid whom I had to teach basic English. It was fun and exhausting at the same time. It was all worth it anyway.

FEBRUARY:
Trip to Zamboanga. I met Apple (Hannah Jane Torres) there and it was really nice. It was my first Mindanao trip that I took the bus and traveled for a whole 22 hours. It was also a great SUN month with Nicca.
MARCH:
My super duper late graduation. It was like going back to college again, with all the practicing and stuff. Then, I also had my braces! The most bothering thing ever attached to my body! I was also able to see Kring after a long-long time. And Donna, too!
Neym, Donna and Kring
Braces Attack!
APRIL:
Family Isla Reta moments. My family doesn't often go on outing together because of different schedules, so this was very memorable.
MAY:
-dementia attack-
JUNE:
Bonding with my friends during Kidd's birthday. They were awesome. Imagine them paying everything for me because I was so broke during the time. It was fun and a little sad, too because Great's dad passed away.
JULY:
A very special bonding with friends again. This was the last month Dhawell was here in Davao.

SEPTEMBER:
Dhawell went home from Manila. I went to his hometown in Kidapawan with him. It was fun there although I was alone and was sort of just randomly joining his family. I felt like some long lost cousin to the Miñozas! =p
OCTOBER:
My birthday..Yeah. =p
NOVEMBER:
Twilight! Bonding with my girlfriends! Last bonding before Madel went to Kuwait and Karen flew to Brisbane, Australia.
