The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (C.S. Lewis)

Alright, buying the book was kind of a waste; because what you saw in the movie was exactly what was written in the book - every bit of it.

Well in the movie, the battle has been longer and there were more actions during the war between Peter and Edmund and the White Witch. But other than that, everything was the same from the beginning up to the end.

But it was still worth a read though. Well, sometimes, I think that the purpose for buying books was for my collection, not reading. Although I knew the story already, I would still buy the book so I would have a collection, or probably something to share with my friends.

I was glad, I saw the movie first before I read the book, which of course is another children's book. At least, I didn't have any bad bout about the comparison of the movie and the book, for of course, they do not have any differences.

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Magician's Nephew (C.S. Lewis)

I was wondering at first why this first installment of the Narnia Chronicles wasn't made into a movie. After reading however, I understood why they didn't bother showing this story first before The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

It is indeed, a children's story. More like a fairy tale that could match the Mother Goose stories. I thought it was a novel; something like the Harry Potter series or even the Lord of the Rings books, but it was different.

It tells a story in the Point of View of the Author. It was nice reading the book and feeling as if he was really telling you the story himself, dropping all the formality and carrying on with narrating like he really wanted the readers to understand.

The Magician's Nephew told the story of how Narnia began and how the hell was there a Wardrobe that leads to the city in the house where the Pevensies have stayed during the war.

I never quite understood when I watched the movie. All I doubted was that Professor Digory Kirke, who owned the house knew about the wardrobe. I never knew that he was the one who had the wardrobe created in the first book.

It was fun, I was laughing most of the time while reading the book because of the animals in Narnia and because of Digory's Uncle Andrew. As the world of Narnia began (just like how our own world began according to the Bible), creatures all around the city start to become aware of their existence and the existence of the other worlds and creatures, including the humans, or as what Aslan called the Sons and Daughters of Adam and Eve.

So now I understood why it wasn't made into a movie for The Magician's Nephew only told the story of how Narnia began, and how that single wardrobe brought Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy to the other world apart from their own.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling

Ohmigosh! I couldn't believe it! The Harry Potter book series that I've been hooking for since 2002 has finally come to an end! And yeah, I only got the chance to actually finish reading it this week; since I stalled on Chapter Ten exactly a year ago.

It was so much than I was expecting. The war that situated at Hogwarts was something really not in my expectation list. LOL! But it was awesome! The way Harry's friends stood up for him, fought for him, and even died for his safety, only showed true Loyalty in the Wizarding World.

Well, I also salute the Death Eaters. They've remained loyal after all those years even if Lord Voldemort had nearly died sixteen years ago. Bellatrix Lestrange was the most loyal of all. I still didn't like her though.

Aside from the wonderful highlights, I didn't like the people who died in the book. Fred Weasley! Oh jeez, I'm glad Joie didn't have the chance to read Deathly Hallows anymore or she'll freak out! Lupin and Tonks' loss, too were very unprecedented; not that time when they have their little Teddy already. Too bad, really. Even Hedwig and Mad-Eye shouldn't have died that way.

Harry's love for Ginny was so well focused in this book. Even though they weren't together, Rowling still managed to show Harry's affection for his ex-girlfriend when she made Harry stare at a little dot in the Marauder's Map which was Ginny. And how Ginny popped in his mind whenever he got the chance.

Ron and Hermione's love story was funny. It was quite sudden. The way Ron showed her affection to Hermione before their declaration of love in the Room of Requirement, was just like the way Harry would have done. So it was unexpected although a lot of Ron-Hermione shippers were already wishing for it.

If there's one character that I'd love the most all throughout the seven installments of the Harry Potter series, it would be Severus Snape. Since the Sorcerer's Stone, although Snape has evidently showed his loathing towards Harry, he still bounded to protect him even after the rise of the Dark Lord. I didn't know why, at first. I just thought maybe because Snape has really turned loyal to Dumbledore. But well, I got my answer in the 7th book.

Here's an excerpt from the review I made on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last November 26, 2005. More than 2 years ago. =p

Let me pick up some lines from the book…this was from chapter 27: The Lightning-Struck Tower:

“We’ve got a problem, Snape,” said the lumpy Amycus, whose eyes and wand were fixed alike upon Dumbledore, “the boy (Malfoy) doesn’t seem able—“
But somebody else had spoken Snape’s name, quite softly.
“Severus…”
The sound frightened Harry beyond anything he had experienced all evening. For the first time, Dumbledore was pleading.
Snape said nothing, but walked forward and pushed Malfoy roughly out of the way. The three Death Eaters fell back without a word. Even the werewolf seemed cowed.
Snape gazed for a moment at Dumbledore, and there was revulsion and hatred etched in the harsh lines of his face.
“Severus…please…”
Snape raised his wand and pointed it directly at Dumbledore.
“Avada Kedavra!”
A jet of green light shot from the end of Snape’s wand and hit Dumbledore squarely in the chest.

Okay, okay…for those who haven’t read the book yet, forgive me for being such a spoiler but honestly, Dumbledore’s death is all over the internet and it is not true that he will come back to life on the 7th book…as Dumbledore mentioned, no spell can bring the dead back to life…so definitely, Dumbledore can never be alive again…

The question is, does Snape really wanted to kill Dumbledore?...is he really back on the dark side?...

Well here is my theory …on the early chapter of the book , Hagrid has mentioned that he overheard Dumbledore and Snape arguing in the forest…I can’t really remember the exact argumemt but as I can remember, Hagrid said that Snape was asking about something and sort of doesn’t want to do what Dumbledore told him to do…Dumbledore got mad and those stuff…so, could it be that Snape has told Dumbledore about Malfoy’s plan of killing him?...and when he said, “Severus…please” did that actually mean that Dumbledore is begging Snape to kill him?...could it be that Dumbledore got angry with Snape because Snape does not want to do what Dumbledore wanted him to do and that is to kill him?...

That was my theory regarding Snape killing Dumbledore up in the Divination Tower right after Dumbledore went weak from drinking the potion to retrieve Voldemort's locket. And indeed, I have been right!

I couldn't believe it. When Harry watched Snape's memories through the Pensieve, I've become more and more excited about the part when he killed Dumbledore. And I was cheering when I read that he really did plan the killing, not with Narcissa or Draco nor Voldemort; but with Dumbledore himself.

Most of my friends hated Snape for what happened in Half-Blood Prince, but I continued to support him and cover up for him by stating my theory all over again. I didn't fail though. They asked me how I came up with the theory, and I of course credited two more friends - Dhawell and Elaiza - for the visualization of our theory. The three of us were the ones who actually came up with it, trying to deny the fact that Snape has gone over to the Dark Side once more.

Harry's right. Severus Snape was probably the bravest man that he ever knew. And yes, he is. He was the only one who have actually gathered up his courage to betray the Dark Lord as well as make him believe he was on the dark side. He did it, and even if I was soooo sad that he died, his existence had still been worthy enough for Harry to name one of his sons after him.

I'm so sad! I couldn't believe that I wouldn't be waiting for another Harry Potter book anymore. I couldn't believe that after 6 years, there'll be no more Harry Potter for me. I couldn't believe that Harry's adventures would have to say goodbye in the book already.

Oh well, things like that happen. But Harry Potter was probably the only book series that I've been hooking for for 6 years.

And of course, it didn't fail me. I was happy to have read this book and watched the movies. J.K. Rowling would still be my number one author.

I'd definitely grab her new book. I bet it'll still be as great as the BOY WHO LIVED.

EDWARD: "Forever and forever and forever"
BELLA: "That sounds exactly right to me."

Breaking Dawn - Stephenie Meyer

OMG. People will understand, the book was just too thick to think about! LOL! It took me exactly 5 days to finish reading. I was supposed to finish this last night, but my eyes were already drooping and the words I was reading seem sooo meaningless to me already.

So I just finished it today. I was so expecting for a WAR to happen, honestly. I noticed in the four books, the action came alternately. There was one in Twilight, then none in New Moon then there's another war in Eclipse and none again in Breaking Dawn.

But that was one thing that I liked in the saga. How the author was able to make her book a bestseller even without violence. Just pure love and care for the family.

I can also see the reason why some readers didn't like Breaking Dawn. Probably because of how it ended. No war, no summit climax, no one got hurt and everything. But I understand it. Because for me, even if the supernatural was involved, I still believe that the main purpose of the Twilight saga was to let us know that no matter how different people are, co-existence is still possible if there's love in our hearts.

Man, that was deep! LOL! And it was funny why I wasn't able to hate Jacob in Breaking Dawn. In fact, he's the funniest and most absurd character in the whole novel. It was crazy, he's actually done all the things that I never expected.

Of course, Edward Cullen was still the best character for me. He's so awesome. He has this really calm attitude that can also calm you, not just because Jasper's around.

Oh yeah, Alice was the greatest side-character that I've ever seen on books. As I would always say, I'd definitely trade everything to have a sister like her. No matter how annoying she could be especially with dealing with parties (like Bella, I hate parties - formal parties), she's still the best sister anyone could have.

And Emmet is the counterpart of Alice for me. His good-natured attitude and positive outlook on things remind me of myself. The way I deal with problems with a smile is also like the way Emmet deals with danger. No pessimism, everything is a game, though taken very seriously.

In conclusion, Breaking Dawn is something worth reading, really. Although there are some boring parts and a lot of narrations, It still was able to convey the true message it wanted the readers to acquire. Appreciate love no matter the difference.

So much for a Sunday...

I saw him! Juan Paolo Garcia. My high school crush!

Brief history. I was in 4th year high school when I had this extreme crush on Paolo who was then a second yeat student. (But we're only a year apart, trust me. )

At first, pinag ti-tripan ko lang siya because he's cute and he resembles Harry Potter with his hair and round-rimmed glasses.

Then later on, came the tuksuhan from my barkada and his and yun, medyo nagka-crush na ako sa kanya.

So when I reached college, I haven't seen him anymore. I know where he lived though. He is my friend's neighbor and his cousin Carlo, is also a good friend of mine.

Of course things changed when you become more mature. I forgot about him as I learned to fall in love and stuff. Cheesy things. No need to elaborate.

It's been around five years since I last saw him. Then yesterday at Church, I saw him! Or rather he saw me.

Carlo was the one who called me. And I hated the way he did; with the suffix "ate" before my name. It felt so bad. But I'm 22 right now, and he's also 22 already this year. I was surprised when I saw his face. He's still so handsome but he doesn't have glasses anymore and his hair was a little spiky already. He'd grown so tall over the years that I was already looking up at him.

I smiled and my heart raced. It was scary, seeing your crush whom you haven't seen for a long time.

So sila ang lumapit sa akin. Sabi pa ni Carlo, ang daya ko daw, because I don't visit their house na. When I was in high school kasi, I often stay on my friend's house just to spy on theirs.

I realized I was laugjing at the thought and he was silent. And I was like, "Ang laki mo na ah, gumwapo ka lalo..." And then Carlo was laughing.

It was embarrassing but fun at the same time, We talked about his college years. He's also studying in Ateneo now. And he was quite surprised he never knew I became a nurse. Because back then, he knew I would be a Journalist

Well things changed. I didn't ask for his number, nor did he and Carlo, too. As I went out of the church, I thought that maybe I will be able to forget that fateful encounter soon. And maybe when we meet again by accident, then that'll be that time that I really won't let things pass.

He's so sooo hot and it surprised me that my heart beat so fast while I was near him. Damn! This whole single-blessedness thing for more than two years is driving me crazy!!

My favorite quotes from Eclipse

This is so much fun!
Spoilers ahead!

BELLA:
“Guess what, Edward?”
EDWARD: “What, Bella?”
BELLA: “I just got my acceptance to the University of Alaska!”
EDWARD: “Congratulations! What a coincidence.”

“Do you really have any idea how important you are to me? Any concept at all of how much I love you?”
-Edward Cullen

“Of course, you know that I’m willing to make it between you and me at any time that you wish. You know my condition.”
-Edward Cullen

"Look after my heart — I’ve left it with you."
-Edward Cullen

“Edward’s only human, Bella. He’s going to react like any other boy.”
-Angela Weber

"This is only about you. All I care is that you’re safe.”
-Edward Cullen

"If Angela turns out to be a witch, she can join the party, too.”
-Bella Swan

Porsches as bribes and king-sized beds in houses where nobody slept — it was beyond irritating.
-Bella Swan

EDWARD: “I was all braced for the wrath that was going to put grizzlies to shame, and this is what I get? I should infuriate you more often.”
BELLA: “Give me a minute to work up to it,”

“This is ridiculous. They’ll get so bored, they’ll have to kill me themselves, just for
something to do.”
-Bella Swan

“Does my being half-naked bother you?”
-Jacob Black

“No, no, Bella. Actually . . .You look . . . sexy.”
-Edward Cullen

ALICE: “Edward is making me do this. But I did foresee that you would be more difficult if I surprised you.”
BELLA: “In English?”
ALICE: “Don’t be a baby about this. No tantrums.”
BELLA: “Now I’m scared.”

EDWARD: “Amazing, how can someone so tiny be so annoying?”
ALICE: “It’s a talent.”

“You don’t want to be my wife.”
-Edward Cullen

“Bella, I love you. And I want you to pick me instead of him."
-Jacob Black

“I love him, Jacob. He’s my whole life.”
-Bella Swan

“I hate you, Jacob Black.”
-Bella Swan

“Stupid, thieving, annoying vampire!”
-Bella Swan

“Admit it, I’m a lifesaver.”
-Alice Cullen

“You are so beautiful,”
-Edward Cullen

ALICE: “Gotcha”
JASPER: “You truly are one frightening little monster.”

“My heart is just as silent,”
-Edward Cullen

“Of course I do, you silly, beautiful, oversensitive girl.”
-Edward Cullen

EDWARD: “Bella, I could kill you,”
BELLA: “I don’t think you could.”

“I had no right to want you — but I reached out and took you anyway. And now look what’s become of you! Trying to seduce a vampire.”
-Edward Cullen

“You are the most dangerous creature I’ve ever met,”
-Edward Cullen

“Please, Bella, please — if you really love me . . . Please let me do your wedding.”
-Alice Cullen

"You know, Edward, as a brother, you are sometimes a disappointment.”
-Alice Cullen

“Either you’re lying, or you are the stubbornest person alive.”
-Jacob Black

EDWARD: “You’re only human,”
BELLA: “That’s the most miserable defense I’ve ever heard.”

“Overprotective fool.”
-Alice Cullen

BELLA: “Love you, Jacob.”
JACOB: “Love you more.”

Well, I dunno why I loved the last quotes. Maybe because of Jacob's.

Elicpse - Stephenie Meyer

God, I didn't know that I'll be able to finish this in three days. I was getting desperate everytime I flip a page and realize that one chapter still wasn't coming to an end.

I don't know, maybe I was just too excited for Breaking Dawn that I thought each chapter of Eclipse was the longest chapter that I've ever seen. And not to mention some boring ones.

But no worries, I read everything though despite my lack of interest in some subjects -thinks about the werewolves-. Damn, I don't mean to be too biased and side on the vampires, but sometimes, the werewolves are getting on my nerves, 'cept maybe for Sam and Seth, they were awesome!

Ok, this has been so action-packed like I imagined it and I kinda breathed a sigh of relief in the outcome. I thought Victoria could escape.

But then it also made me wonder about the things that I'm supposed to expect in Breaking Dawn. The Volturi, maybe? I'm not sure though. I'm starting to like them as much as I'm getting annoyed by Jacob Black.

Ok, I swear I don't have anything against Jacob Black, but sometimes, he's too much to handle. I wonder why Bella was still able to hold onto him no matter how much she loved him. I mean compared to Edward (never mind the looks), Jacob is a hundred percent downer. Attitude-wise, the vampire gets my credits.

Oh well, there are some parts when I liked Jacob too, though. Although it's not in the majority, but I'm still glad he exists in the saga. I guess it would be too boring if there are no complications between Edward and Bella's love affair aside from the fact that a lot of vampires wanted Bella dead.

Yeah, I'm ranting now and spoiling. Haha!! I'm starting to read Breaking Dawn. Can't wait for the wedding, and Alice always makes me excited!

I love Alice so much!! She's the perfect sister that I would ever want!

My OST for Bella Swan and Edward Cullen

Gemini by Spongecola.

Ok, so after reading Twilight, I randomly went back through my Spongecola Music collection in my I-pod. I don't know, I just felt like listening to Jeepney and Lunes again.

Then after a while of scanning, I came across the song Gemini. I don't know what year this song has bvecome number one in MYX, probably last year?

I'm really not sure though, but as I listened intently to the song, I was disturbed by imaginary images of Bella and Edward together and I was like, "Ok, this song fits their relationship perfectly"

Bella compared her relationship with Edward as like the love story between Romeo and Juliet and I remembered that the MV of Gemini included a play of Romeo and Juliet.

So maybe it really is suited for them. I love the song so much and I'm once again playing it over and over in my ear. =]

GEMINI

Come a little closer
Flicker in flight
We’ll have about an inch space
But I’m here I can breathe in
What you breathe out

Let me know if I’m doing this right
Let me know if my grip’s too tight
Let me know if I can stay all of my life
Let me know if dreams can come true
Let me know if this one’s yours too

‘Cause I see it
And I feel it
Right here
And I feel you right here

The vacuous night
Steps aside to give meaning
To Gemini’s dreaming
The moon on it’s back
And the seemingly
Veiled room’s lit
By the same star

And I feel it right here
And I feel you right here

Favorite quotes from NEW MOON

I actually thought I only had a few!

BELLA: "Alice, I wasn't committing suicide."
ALICE: "Are you saying you didn't jump off a cliff?"
BELLA: "No, but…It was for recreational purposes only."

"Well, I need to go get a suitcase of clothes, at the very least."
-Alice Cullen

"No. He'd bite my head off"
-Alice Cullen

"I do! Oh, Alice, do it now! I could help you so much—and I wouldn't slow you down. Bite me!"
-Bella Swan

BELLA: "The way I feel about you will never change. Of course I love you—and there's nothing you can do about it!"
EDWARD: "That's all I needed to hear."

"Will you please try to hear what I'm telling you? Will you let me attempt to explain what you mean to me?"
-Edward Cullen

BELLA: "You love me"
EDWARD: "Truly, I do"

EDWARD: "Marry me first."
BELLA: "Okay. What's the punch line?"
EDWARD: "You're wounding my ego, Bella. I just proposed to you, and you think it's a joke."

BELLA: "You're impossible, a monster."
EDWARD: "Is that why you won't marry me?"

"BELLA! I SEE HIS CAR AND I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE! IF YOU AREN'T INSIDE THIS HOUSE IN ONE MINUTE… !"
-Charlie Swan

New Moon - Stephenie Meyer

Ok, so I've read this in two days, with the intervals of checking the internet and making requested themes and chatting with my friends on YIM. Two days. It may seem long already, but i spent around 3 hours yesterday reading the first 15 chapters of the book.

My eyes got pretty stingy so I adjusted it to the light of my computer. And of course, I needed sleep.

So I finished it just a while ago.

I admit, I got a little bored with this book. Probably because of the absence of the Cullens. And it took actually more than 15 chapters before I was able to read Edward Cullen's name repeated over and over again through the course of the book.

New Moon has actually covered most of Jacob Black story. And I thank him for making Bella happy during Edward's absence.

His story might be a little too exciting as well as Edward's, but I cannot suppress the fact that I was reading faster that I used to be...Probably too excited to go by the end and see Edward again.

A wave of relief flooded through me when I saw Alice's name being yelled by Bella inside her house and I was like, "Almost there"

But Edward's return to the pages of the book wasn't at all too exciting as in Twilight. I don't know, it was like the author was only trying hard to find an adventure that could put some climax in this 24-chapter book.

But all in all, it was good. Maybe because Edward has come back and promised once again not to leave Bella anymore. And also maybe because I was so exhuberant that Edward already wanted to marry Bella. And she is still a high school student.

So yeah, I'm reading Eclipse now.

My favorite TWILIGHT quotes

"And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…"
-Edward Cullen

"For almost ninety years I've walked among my kind, and yours… all the time thinking I was
complete in myself, not realizing what I was seeking. And not finding anything, because
you weren't alive yet."
-Edward Cullen

BELLA: "I love you,"
EDWARD: "You are my life now,"

"I need another human minute"
-Bella Swan

"That you are a very, very terrifying monster,"
-Bella Swan

"I can feel what you're feeling now — and you are worth it."
-Jasper Hale

"It's like you've taken half my self away with you."
-Edward Cullen

BELLA: "Look, I love you more than everything else in the world combined. Isn't that enough?"
EDWARD: "Yes, it is enough. Enough for forever."

"You really shouldn't have said that..."
-Edward Cullen

Twilight - Stephenie Meyer

Whoa, believe it or not, hadn't my friend lent me this book, I wouldn't have been able to actually read it.

I've heard about this a long time ago although I was kinda off budget so I wasn't able to buy a copy. Thanks to Delle, she's my lifesaver!

Anyways, I already had some little knowledge about the story of this book. Very little, to be exact. I knew, that it is a love story between a 90-year-old vampire and a 17-year-old human. Sounded crazy, but nothing's ever crazy when you have a terribly creative mind.

I've been reading a lot of books like this already before, but I didn't know what was in this book, that I totally have fallen in love with the main character, Edward Cullen. Yes, the vampire.

No one knew how he looked, 'cept maybe for the movie character played by Robert Pattinson (and he is exactly how I pictured the real Edward).

Since the start when Edward and Bella Swan had an encounter, I immediately had fallen for this irresistible vampire. Truly, Stephenie Meyer didn't only intend to make Edward dazzle Bella in the story, but the readers of the book as well.

All throughout the story, I've always been sighing as I read wonderful quotes from Edward. Crazy, really but I couldn't help it. Who can, right? Most of the people I knew who have read Twilight are also in love with Edward. Too bad he belongs to Bella now, that lucky girl! haha!

And yeah, believe me or not, I've only uttered one bad word ONCE while reading the book. The part where James tricked Bella to having her mom. Yeah, that was when I said, "Putangina, ang galing ng gago!" haha! Vampires could be smart. And HUNGRY ones could be smarter.

Damn! How I love to meet and fall in love with a vampire! Haha! They are so far the most passionate and sweetest creatures that I've encountered. Well perhaps when they aren't thirsty for blood.

And yeah, it's not bad to believe that they truly exist. Sometimes, people tend to confuse legends from realities and as time passes, realities merely become legends told and foretold by the passing generations.
