Definitely not the type of horror movie that you are expecting!

So when I first heard about this movie, I was all, “I guess it’s just some typical low-budget film that would make you throw away your money.” The reason why I watched this? CHRIS HEMSWORTH.

Ok, it’s a little off the chart though. haha! But hey, he’s hot and all, and this is some sort of a different genre. He couldn’t go all THOR and HUNTSMAN on me every time I see him. :))

Anyways, so this movie really is a surprise because it had a lot of unexpected turn of events. Like I said, not the typical horror movie that you’re expecting. It’s just like your worst nightmares being thrown at you. And it reminded me of the Hunger Games, actually. :p You get the tip on how this goes, minus the kill each other part though.

I remember that “Choose Your Own Nightmare” books that I used to read when I was a kid. It’s something like that. You’ll be choosing which nightmare you’ll unleash however, you cannot anymore choose how to survive, because that part is “their” job. Most of the scenes are stereotypical though, the kind that you see in every horror movie which definitely is the reason behind the making of this film.

It’s good, really. I’ll give it a rating of 4/5, especially in the last part, which is bloody, by the way. :))

Just like its tagline, “You think you know the story” but clearly, unless you see it, you don’t. :p

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

President by day, Hunter by night.

Just watched it at Gaisano Mall Cinema. I was skeptical when I first saw the trailer of this movie, and its posters. The 16th President of the United States, a vampire hunter? It was just absurd, even for a fictional story. Then I discovered, that it was based on a mash-up novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith.

After hearing mixed reviews, I grew curious of the film. Maybe it really has something good despite the ridiculous title.

So my friends and I were supposed to watch Ice Age 4, but decided to watch this movie instead. My verdict? 4/5.

The movie portrayed a different history of the President who abolished slavery and won the Civil War. The factual history was mixed with the existence of vampires, who led the war against Lincoln just because he freed the slaves who were supposed to be their food.

The mash-up was really good, for you can still see the real history of President Lincoln in a fantasy world. Something that could make you think, “What if this really happened in history?” :p Well that is, if you really believed in the existence of vampires. :p

I like how Benjamin Walker portrayed the president with precision; how he talked, moved, and even how he looked. That was what struck me the most. I was constantly telling my friends how he looked so much like the real president.

And in this movie, they also showed us that not all vampires were evil, as represented by Henry Sturgess, the vampire who taught Abe to become a hunter of the history.

So since everyone wasn’t able to attend last week, when we flew the sky lantern to welcome Keita’s birthday, we had a post-celebration dinner at my house. Why my house? Because mum had to cook the lechon paksiw that Jody brought from Agusan. hehe. :)

Keita's 24th Birthday in Heaven

We welcomed Keita’s 24th birthday in heaven. It has been 7 months since she died, but she still felt so much alive.

We just had a simple “party” at Jody’s, and by 12 midnight, we lit a lantern, plastered it with our messages for Keita, and watched it float up into the air. Epic. :)

Due to the ban of non-biodegradable plastics in Davao, McDonald’s started using paper bags for to-go orders. :)

The Amazing Spiderman (Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone)

Watched the premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man last night, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. I was supposed to be boycotting it dramatically, but I had to watch it because it was for the fund-raising of CRIADOS. :p

I like how they featured Gwen Stacy, instead of MJ Watson this time, because most people, from the 3 original Spider-Man movies believed that MJ was Peter Parker’s one and only love interest. I just hope it wouldn’t be too sad when she dies in the sequels. :p

I like the part where Peter invented the web-shooters which was what really happened in the comics, instead of just developing it organically, just like in the previous movies.

I like the new Spider-Man suit better. Or maybe it’s because it’s a 2012 movie, not a 2002 one. lol! :))

I like how Andrew Garfield portrayed Peter Parker. He once said in an interview that he would memorize Tobey Maguire’s lines in the previous films and recite them in the mirror. Maybe that was also the reason why he was able to project the character naturally.

But all in all, the movie had a lot of drama, which was unusual, considering it’s an action-superhero type of film. The reboot was good, but I admit, I like the previous movies better. :)

All Coming Together | June 5, 2012 | The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

So sometimes, when you're really busy and whatnot, it's sort of difficult to actually get together with friends who are equally busy. So, we tend to treasure every single moment that we get to spend time with them; even if it's just one study session at a coffee shop. :)

Had loads of catching up to do with some of my friends. We actually didn't plan to meet up at CBTL. Only Sephie, Ben, and I had plans to spend the night there to read and run some errands.

Look who we've found! Pat! haha! Karen and Jay were there, too.

Sometimes, you don't need to make a whole lot of effort to meet up with friends. And maybe it's because of this thing called "friendship" that somehow connects you with each other that even though without saying anything, your minds run the same course. :)

I truly miss my AceTeryahe Family. :)

So, we’ve had this plan for almost five months now, and finally, it came true! lol!

My high school friends and I were like reminscing a lot of things on Twitter when we suddenly came to an agreement about how much we missed eating Sisig at Ramil’s internet shop every after class hours.

So we decided to plan a Sisig party. Just a few of us. We had planned for this since the start of the year but due to busy schedule and tight budget, we were only able to do it last night.

Good thing was, a lot more people came, and it became an instant reunion. It was fun bringing back the past and talking about our crazy adventures when we were in high school and how childish we were then.

Definitely won’t miss another gathering for the world. :)

Movie Night Out with the Boys | May 20, 2012 | Abreeza Ayala Mall

So the AceTeryahe boys plus me decided to bond over dinner and Dark Shadows after not seeing each other for a while. It was supposed to be the whole group, but the other girls had their own plans for the night so I was left alone hanging out with my boys. lol!

Saw some friends at the movie house so we decided to watch the movie together and have some few drinks afterwards.

We couldn’t do this often anymore due to the busy schedule of some of our friends that’s why we always treasure the moments when we could just gather even for dinner, or some chit-chats. :)

Burger-Pasta-Avocado Gluttony

It's been a while since the last time we had some food trippin' at Pat's house so last night when he invited, I couldn't say no.

We tried out his mum's homemade burger patty and Pat cooked pasta as a side dish. It was terribly heavy but amazingly delicious! :)) Then, we had an avocado iced candy for dessert which was really creamy.

I really couldn't get over the fact that my friends and I bond most of the time during alcohol sessions, and food trips! :)

A Trip on the Road

April 28-29, 2012. AceTeryahe Family. We had our roadtrip to General Santos City and then Surallah for the 7 Falls Zipline experience.

Had a lot of unfortunate events happening to us, but we all managed to get out unscathed. First was that we got locked out of one of our vehicles, and the keys were left inside. We spent almost an hour trying to pry open the lock, with the help of the hotel personnel in GenSan.

Then during the trip back home from Surallah, the other car had a flat tire, and worse, it was wrongly aligned, that it was too dangerous to drive it back home. So we spent a little time at the autoshop to have it fixed.

Luckily, with three bottles of vodka, we were able to get home safely. :)

In the Service of Lantapan

CRIADOS had its mission at Lantapan Bukidnon last Arpil 14-15, 2012. We circumcised about 20 patients, who are the kids of one of our members' workers.

The fun part was of course, the before and after-parties that we had, which is what CRIADOS does best! :)

What’s scary about being a medical student is that sometimes, you tend to make explanations for the strange things that happen to you.

When you hear unexplained voices speaking on your ear, you don’t immediately regard it as supernatural. You have two options: it’s either some medical brain condition, or could be psychological. The way you asses yourself can tell you which is which.

Paranoia isn’t odd in the medical world. When you study different signs and symptoms of diseases, you tend to correlate it with your own; just like when people look up their symptoms on the internet, and they come up with one disease - CANCER.

But what would you do if it was you? If you yourself believe that you don’t have the ability to go beyond the realms of the real world, yet you hear stuff you are not able to hear. Should you go get a CT-Scan, or go straight to psychiatrist for a consult?

That kind of decision has never been easy. For a positive result from either consultations can never be good.

The Vow that will Never Take Place

“I do”. It’s every woman’s dream to say those words in front of the love of her life, her family, and all her loved ones.

But what happens when this vow will never take place again; after months of planning one would just decide to call it off, and break it? What would happen to all the years of thinking about it, and asking friends, and family for advice?

Marriage is indeed one way for a couple to settle down. But what if they realize they aren’t ready to become one, to live in the same roof, to start a family? Or what if one of them isn’t ready, or what if one of them isn’t even sure if he wants to get married at this time?

Is calling off a wedding the right thing to do? Would one just waste everything they have prepared just because they decided not to get married? Or maybe there is a way for the couple to talk about their differences, or the reason why they had to call it off.

Weddings are one of the things people look forward to. Sometimes, the guests, sponsors, Maid of Honor are the ones more excited than the bride and groom. But when things take its turn and everything is halted, we can’t help but feel bad, because this dream wedding that we keep on picturing in our minds won’t seem to happen anymore.
