Yuppies in Samal!

July 25-26, 2009

Yuppies in Samal!

The San Isidro Labrador Young Professionals had their first ever retreat at the Our Lady of Victory in Sitio Camudmud, Babac, Island Garden City of Samal. :)

weee!! It was very fun, grabe! I never expected it would turn out to be a very fun outing!

Well, as usual, hindi nasunod ang oras talaga kung kailan kame aalis from Davao, at darating sa Samal. We arrived there at around 2pm na, where we had to cook fro lunch.

Pagkatapos naming mag lunch, we went to the Bat Cave. It wasn't really far from our RetreatHouse, pero medyo mahirap ang daan. haha! But then, when we reached the place, we felt it was worth it.

But then, as we went to see the bats, sobrang na shock ako! haha!! Kakaiba yung amoy, grabe! It was one of the worse smells that I've ever smelled! Medyo ok pa nung una, pero nung nag try na kaming umakyat sa taas to see more bats, hindi ko na kinaya. I was already retching like mad at natakot na ako na baka masuka ako dun. LOL!

So some of the girls decided to go down na lang. Sobrang hindi talaga kinaya! Hinintay na lang namin yung iba dun sa may entrance. :)

So after the bat cave, while on our way back to the retreat house, biglang umulan and unexpectedly, nalibing sa putikan ang gulong ng L300 van namen! hahaha!! Ayun, bonggang bonggang tulakan! Sobrang dumi tuloy nila! Hindi ako sumali kase ako ang nag document sa mga pangyayare. Nakakaloka! Pero it was so fun! Dun na lang kame nakapag team building. hahaha!!! =p

Hindi pakame dumiretso sa retreat house. Talagang namasyal pa kame sa Holy Cross na Maritime training center. Kaya ayun, before going back to OLV, we decided to have an outing nanaman soon doon sa Holy Cross.

So anyways, ayun, rest kame pagdating sa OLV. The others took a bath, kase sobrang dumi nila. haha! After that, Father Pepe went home na, kase may mass pa siya on a Sunday while Father Orly stayed behind.

We had a session and some sharing that night. Pagkatapos, yung usual ghost stories! haha!! It was really weird that for the first time, natakot ako while hearing the stories. Grabe! lol! Then ayun, we decided to go to bed na pero kame ng mga teachers and Divine decided to stay up and play cards while we continued the ghost stories.

In the end, alas tres nako nakatulog. hahaha! At gumising po ako ng alas singko! lol! I only had a few hours of sleep. Kase when I woke up, di nako makatulog ulet because of the rain tapos medyo maliwanag na sa labas. So ayun, I had coffee and waited for the others to wake up.

We had breakfast at naligokame sa beach! yay!!! Sobrang saya talaga! Nag session nanaman kame after that, then lunch at games games na! haha! At first naglaro kame ng cards, pero we decided to play the FIND THE KILLER game. One of the best games we've ever had! haha!

And by 3 in the afternoon, kailangan na naming umalis para makapunta pa sa bahay nina Father Orly. When we reached his house, I really told the others na pag ako nakatira dun, mahihinto ako sa pag-aaral. haha! Meron kasi silang tindahan, videoke, conputer at pool table. Tatambay na lang siguro ako dun forever! hahaha!!

Ayun, nung medyo dumidilim na, we went home na.

It was a very nice experience. When I first entered the Young Professionals org in our church, I only had my brother as someone I could always talk to. But through that retreat, I became close to the other members and was able to show them the real me. :)

Pictures can be viewed by clicking here. :) - we should be friends in order to see the photos. :)

katangahan sa anatomy moving exam..

PRE-NOTE: For non medical people, please search the capitalized words in google para maka relate kayo! =p

ok, so today was the first day of our prelim exam. we had one subject: Anatomy, with the laboratory moving exam in the morning and lecture written exam in the afternoon.

so this was what happened. dumating ako sa school nang di masyadong prepared. i studied hard, sa SNELL (the author of the textbook we use in anatomy lecture), at hindi sa CLEMENTE (the author of the dissector that we use in the laboratory). eh dapat, mas mag aral ako sa clemente kase lboratory exam siya.

so here goes. my classmates and i reviewed about the muscles, arteries, nerves, veins, origins, insertions, chorvaloo...hehe! we reviewed really hard, kahit na medyo napaka hyper namen mag review. hahaha!!

so dumating si kuya gilbert (isa sa mga assistant sa lab). he was like, "ang hirap ng exam niyo! pag aralan niyo ang mga nerve roots"

eh di nataranta ang lola niyo dahil hindi ko pinag aralan ang nerve roots!! so buti na lang, earl was able to save the day dahil tinuruan niya kame. hahaha!! sabe ku pa, "i have a feeling na walang nerve roots. alam niyo naman si kuya gilbert, may pagka-flip" ahahaha!!

so anyways, ayun the exam started. una ang section namen and it was in alphabetical order. as our surnames were approaching nearer, we became practically random na. the guys started to sing medley songs and i started to rant, "kung alam ko lang ganito kahirap ang med, sana nag law na lang ako" mwahaha!! imagine? ako? nag LAW? hahaha!!

so anyways, to make the long story short, it was our turn already. so i took my paper, wrote my name, the date, etc...so when the bell rang, i went to the first station..

NEYM: hala, ano yan?
kase nakatali sa muscle sa likod ng sternum. pero i wasn't sure if it was a muscle or a fascia...so i answered TRANSVERSUS THORACIS MUSCLE...

then i moved on...gahd!! at nakatali ang ipapaidentify nila sa isang NERVE!! and nerve is my hatest part dahil isa lang talaga ang masasagot ku sa lahat ng nerve...LATERAL THORACIC NERVE! ahahaha!! para sure!! =p

ni hindi ku na ma differentiate kung nerve or artery ba yung nakikita ku. magkamukha kase. mwahaha!!

so anyways, i got into this station where i had to think of the insertion of the muscle na nakatali. eh ang problema, napasarap ang pag iisip ku at naabutan na ako ng time. so nataranta nanaman ang lola niyo! when i moved on to the next station, dun ku na sinulat yung sagot ku sa previous station.

so the tendency was i wasn't able to orient myself with the position of my cadaver dahil nagmamadali na ako para makahabol sa pagsagot dun sa present station ko. when i looked at the A question, i answered PECTORALIS MAJOR MUSCLE. then sa B question naman, medyo napaisip pa ako, pero i answered SUBCLAVIUS MUSCLE...

so i guess it was around a few seconds before the bell rang when i was finally able to look at my cadaver and my gosh!! NAKATALIKOD PALA ANG CADAVER KO! mwahahaha!!
eh yung sagot ko, sa harap yun. ahahaha!! sa sobrang tranta ko, hindi ko napansin na nakatalikod pala yung cadaver. akala ko nakahiga siya. eh the pectoralis major muscle is in front, as well as the subclavius..

eh di taranta part three ako. i erased my first two answers, pero the bell rang na. so my answer became A: TRAPEZIUS MUSCLE at sa B: LEVATOR SCAPULAE MUSCLE...

then we moved on. more nerves, more confusing muscles or fascia and finally, i was finished...

so ayun, balita ako sa classmates ku dun sa nangyare. sabe ku pa, "yung sa trapezius chorva" sabe naman nila, "wala namang trapezius"

and then napaisip uli ako...gahd!! hindi nga pala trapezius yun kase tinanggal na ang trapezius! ahaha!! it was the INFRASPINATUS MUSCLE pala!! tangina!! mali nanaman ako dun! ahahha!!

sobrang werla moment talaga. akalain mong hindi ku man lang napansing NAKATALIKOD pala at hindi NAKATIHAYA yung cadaver na sinasagutan ku. if i was able to orient myself na nakatalikod siya, i was able to analyze the muscle pa and would be able to answer it correctly.

huuuu...i hate moving exams! nakaka pressure!! meron pang devil clock na nadidinig talaga sa speaker yung TICKING sound niya. and every tick would correspond to my heartbeat. hahaha!!!

if it wasn't for the time pressure, i would have answered the muscles well..haaayy..

so anyways, dahil sa sobrang frustrate ku sa nangyare, when i bought my lunch, ang tingin ku sa mga carrots eh nerves at sa mga fish naman eh muscles. hahaha!!! parang they were mocking me, telling me how stupid i was. mwahahaha!! =p

and while i was licking my wound, biglang nag announce na WALANG PASOK dahil may H1N1!! mwahaha!!

so yun, suspended and classes namen hanggang july 30. yay!! more time to date walter boron! ahahaha!!! =p

BUHAY MEDISINA...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I really don't know how to strat. But maybe I'll start with saying, WTF! How did they all grow up so fast?

Oh well, I'm sort of proud to say that I'm one of those who actually watched them grow from little kids to ladies and gents. hehe.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead. =p

But back to the movie, as usual, it was an awesome movie, however, we who have read the books couldn't help but get a little disappointed with the scenes that weren't included in the movie. Those scenes won't even take up much of the allotted running time for that movie.

For once, a very essential scene wasn't included. The Battle in the Astronomy Tower. Imagine a bunch of Death Eaters invading the castle of Hogwarts, do you think they would just walk around the castle silently without wreaking havoc? Just being realistic, we all know that there should be a battle going on when Harry and Dumbledore returned from their journey in the cave. But there was nothing. There was only silence and confrontations that I think really ruined the movie.

What I like about the movie though was that they sort of showed that Snape really isn't the bad guy, even if it was only subliminal. It was when he gestured to Harry not to make a sound as he climbed up and killed Dumbledore. It was like telling Harry to stay put and follow Dumbledore's orders until the end, as if letting Harry know that he really shouldn't do anything to disobey the Headmaster's orders.

It was good, really. For those who already knew about the Deathly Hallows perhaps would agree with me. For those who don't, sorry for the spoiler.

Another thing that I love in the movie was the scene in the cave. For the first time, I screamed while watching a Harry Potter movie. That Inferius scene when Harry scooped up some water really surprised me. And when Dumbledore conjured the fire to ward of the Inferi, it was indeed beyond what I was imagining. It was more intense and amazing.

No matter how hard I try to complain about the movie, I still couldn't help but love it. Maybe because I've been a fan for already nine years now, and there's really nothing that can make me say no to anything going on with Harry Potter. :)
